Important updates to our Coffee Pricing
Our coffee prices are increasing, and wanted to communicate why, and the challenge being faced globally.
Green coffee is being hit by an all time high in trading price. For the first time in over 13yrs, the coffee price index has traded at $3 or more per lb. Inflation, cost of production, and cost of living are factors for all of us in daily life. But why is it affecting commodity products like green coffee? The recent pressure is mostly due to poor forcasts for the Brazil crop next year. Brazil is the biggest producer, and a poor year of harvest, massively affects the supply and demand globally. Production costs have also risen in every country, so when you add that to demand going up, and supply being reduced, there’s no avoiding it.
You’ll see this effect all coffee (take a look at instant on the supermarket shelves), also cocoa, olive oil and orange juice are taking the same hit. Your chocolate bar costs so much more, because the raw cocoa has risen in the same way as coffee.
Below is a chart of the International trading level per lb of green coffee over 2024, to show where things are at compared to this time last year. It’s a very unpredictable market, but in reality, its unlikely to reduce significantly, even if Brazil does better than expected – because that’s only a part of the reason.
The green coffee we buy from our importers, and direct from Uganda, have all had this huge spike in price, which is why we have reluctantly had to increase our prices. We have been as creative as possible, by working hard on reducing our packaging and bag costs (without compromising eco credentials). Please rest assured we have done everything we can to minimise the impact on purchasing.
ESPRESSO
If you purchase kilo bags of coffee, the increase is only 2p added per cup of coffee. If you are a cafe we’d encourage you to review your prices, to absorb this.
FILTER SACHETS
If you purchase boxes of 55g or 70g sachets, please note the boxes now contain 50sachets not 40. This helps us keep the increase down to only 7p-10p more per sachet, by reducing packaging.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
